Some problems fall between disciplines, get avoided by the institutions that should own them, or affect people too invisible for anyone to fund the work. The knowledge and tools to attempt them exist right now — what's missing is anyone actually trying. These are rare and valuable for students: there is no wreckage of failed prior attempts to dig through, just an open field.
