failure:unviable-economics
A genuinely working solution died for financial reasons: too expensive for a competitive market, priced beyond what the people who need it can pay, dependent on selling a recovered material nobody wants, or built on energy costs that can never compete. The engineering succeeded and the business model failed. Progress here means redesigning the economics, not the device.
